Looking for a kids party in Zwolle your child will still talk about years from now? At The Great Escape the birthday kid heads off with a group of friends on an adventure inside one of our specially kid-friendly escape rooms. Together they have to escape in time, a healthy dose of suspense, challenging puzzles and lots of teamwork. Not a passive activity, but sixty minutes of being the real hero of their own story.

To make the rooms suitable for children, we tweak the music, the special effects and the puzzle difficulty to match the age of the group. On top of that, a dedicated host in character pulls the kids straight into the story so the game comes alive from minute one. The result? A party where the birthday kid feels like a star, without anyone, including you as a parent, getting overwhelmed. We host the whole experience at our venue on Burgemeester Drijbersingel 19, five minutes from the centre of Zwolle.

Especially for kids parties we have two escape rooms you can book in their kids version: The Lost Package Kids and The Boobytrap Kids. Both rooms have their own story, their own vibe and their own type of puzzles, so pick whatever fits the birthday kid best.

In The Lost Package Kids the children help a confused postman who has lost his most valuable parcels. Among others, the Queen of England is waiting impatiently for her expensive jewellery, and without the team's help the package will never arrive in time. Together with the postman they enter the post office in search of clues, but it soon becomes clear the parcels did not just vanish. An adventure full of surprise discoveries, secret drawers and moments where the kids beam at each other: "We solved this!"

In The Boobytrap Kids the children are on their own. The family is about to leave for holiday, the suitcases are already in the hallway, but two crooks have set their sights on the house and want to clear it out before anyone leaves. The kids have to build clever booby traps, follow clues through the house and use both nerve and logic to stay one step ahead of the burglars. Perfect for groups who enjoy a bit of mischief and love being the real heroes of their own Home Alone-style story.

At a kids party one adult always joins the children inside the escape room. That can be one of our experienced game masters, or just as well an enthusiastic parent, uncle, aunt, grandma or grandpa. Important to know: that adult is not there to solve the puzzles. In fact, they are not supposed to. The role of the chaperone is to let the kids work together, keep them calm when tension rises and make sure everyone participates, including the shy friend who would otherwise hold back.

The real direction happens behind the scenes: our game master follows the game through cameras and microphones, hands out a hint at exactly the right moment and keeps the pace and tension in balance. Parents who would rather not join can relax with a coffee or drink in our Escape Café. They are often welcome to watch the final part of the game from the control room, so they can proudly greet the kids the moment they come cheering out of the room.

An escape room lasts about an hour and is already a complete party in itself. Want to make more of it? Pair the visit with coffee and cake beforehand in the Escape Café, or add one of our packages with fries, snacks or a real high tea for kids. In good weather you can also take the party outside: our puzzle trails and outdoor escapes through Zwolle's old town are a wonderful way to keep the group going a little longer while they discover the prettiest corners of the city. Our kids rooms are generally suitable from around age 7 or 8. The Lost Package Kids is the most accessible and already works nicely for younger children, while The Boobytrap Kids with its slightly bolder vibe is better suited to seasoned puzzlers of about 9 and up. Got a group that has already done a few escape rooms? Just ask about our regular rooms, from around age 12 children can perfectly handle the standard rooms in Zwolle with an adult along.

Do keep the group size manageable: four to six children per room works best.
